I really have to thank you for posting about the allergy to beeswax.
You have no idea how much reading your post has changed my life!

For a little under a YEAR I’ve been dealing with the beeswax reaction.
I have many many food allergies and blamed it on innocent foods that I began to avoid one by one believing it had something to do with the food I was consuming. I am 21 and in college and having this issue around the lips made me become more and more depressed. I model and and constantly in the spotlight when I do speeches for my school. When this rash began to develop I lost almost all of my confidence and was in a constant state of frustration.

I enjoy challenges therefore I turned the tables and created an intense food diary. One by one I chose which food I had a severe reaction to (or what it seemed like) and made a science experiment out of my eating habits. I left one food as a variable and kept everything else constant. I was suspicious about everything from coffee, red wine to MSG! I then moved onto SLS which is found in many toothpastes. You can’t understand how many neurotic hours I spent doing research online reading doctor forums on everything from eczema, herpes, rosacea, angular cheilitis, you name it! I really began to go a bit crazy. I would’t leave my room, I wouldn’t want to see people because I felt like a freak! The little clue that snuck right under my nose…my Chapstick!

Every time I felt my lips get horrid I would lather my face with Chapstick, there was my problem then entire time! One night (doing my routine forum searches) I stumbled upon your beeswax post. It was light a light went on in my mind! I literally flung the covers from my feet and ran to my bowl of chapsticks/lipglosses…8% bees wax, 15% beeswax, 70% BEESWAX! Every single darned gloss, stick, what have you had that little curse in it! I then called my significant other and told him I think I figured out what my deal was. That same night (mind you every night I would again bathe my face to hope to wake up to a normal smile) I dumped everything and put the only thing I had left, Vix Vapor Rub on my lips. I kid you not, the next morning I almost cried to look in the mirror and see my face no longer as a clown but the face I used to see before this all happened! It’s been about 3 weeks and I haven’t touched honey, anything containing beeswax and I’m brand new again.

You save’d me and I thank you. A million times over, thank you!

    • You are so welcome and thank you so much making me feel like the info I provide is making a difference. Although I must say that I cringed when I read you put Vick’s Vapor Rub on your lips – owie! I would have thought for sure that that would sting like a son-of-a-gun. Glad it didn’t and glad that you finally found the source of your rash – yay!
